Before taking the Bronze Medallion and higher awards it is
necessary to take the relevant Life Support Award. Life
Support is required for the Bronze Medallion and for the Award of Merit and
Life Support 3 for the Distinction. Both Life Support
Awards are valid for 2 years.
At Worthing Life Guard Corps the teachers
will spend approximately 6 weeks on life support work before entering candidates
for an award. During this time candidates have the opportunity to learn
all aspects of life support at the relevant level including rescue breathing
(on adult, child and baby manikins as well as simulated rescue breathing
on a live person ), C.P.R. and basic first aid (including choking, bleeding,
hypothermia and treatment for shock).
LIFE SUPPORT - To demonstrate
a competent level of skill in basic life support and knowledge of the diagnosis
and management of choking, bleeding and shock.

LIFE SUPPORT 3 - To demonstrate
an excellent level of skill in basic life support for casualties of all ages and
in a variety of emergency situations. To demonstrate an excellent level of knowledge
in the diagnosis and management of choking, bleeding, shock, hypothermia and drowning.
