General Information about
Worthing Life Guard Corps Welcome to the most successful livesaving club in Sussex!
Worthing Life Guard Corps, re-formed in 1947 and with about 100 active members, has won the Duke of Norfolk's Trophy 18 times in the past 20 years. This trophy is presented to the club in Sussex that achieves the highest number of lifesaving and resuscitation awards in one year.
The club meets on Monday evenings from 8:30
to 10:30pm except on Bank Holidays, at the Aquarena, Brighton Road, Worthing,
where we teach lifesaving and resuscitation to everyone from 13 years
old upwards. Members are encouraged to start at the bottom of the
ladder; some progress quickly, completing as many as eight awards in the
year, others like to take their time and take only one per year, "resting"
between awards.
Classes are allocated
to teachers who progress the class to their examinations. All teachers are vetted
to the CRB enhanced level. Once you start a course you will be expected to attend
regularly, for the good of the whole class. Members are required to help
out with the club organisation, acting as casualties when required, and helping
either to get equipment out, or to put it away. An annual subscription
entitles you to attend the Club and also to receive a copy of the RLSS Lifesaving
book as a part of your joining fee.
If you move onto higher awards you may be expected
to provide cover to various events throughout the year. These can be Sponsored
Swims, Galas, Fun Events or Beach Events. We run one of the most successful
Life Saving competition squads in the whole
of Sussex, winning many trophies, and we are always looking for new members.
The squad train every Monday evening and you are welcome to join in and improve
your swimming. We are also involved in teaching resuscitation to the community;
members are encouraged to help with this programme. Every year we hold
Open Water Awards and usually combine this with a barbecue on the beach.
