Competitions
Worthing Life Guard Corps has an active Competition Squad which regularly achieves success at regional and national level.

Incident RelayPOOL TRAINING SESSIONS
George Eames (from Worthing swimming Club) takes our training sessions every Monday from 9.30 -10.30pm. Sessions usually take the form of a warm-up followed by a specific technique that may be required for the next competition as well as general stamina training.

DRY SIDE  AND RESUSCITATION TRAINING
Dry side training takes place on a Monday evening from 8pm-8.30pm.Training can take the form of practising marching (required for some team competitions), resuscitation, first aid, and general knowledge of Life Support.

OPEN WATER TRAINING SESSIONS
Beach SprintDuring the summer months we have outdoor sessions either on a Saturday or a Sunday morning or afternoon, depending on the tides. Sessions usually last for 2 hours and consist of a warm-up run to the pier and back (approx. 1 mile), followed by a swim and run, swimming distances between piers, doing the reel and line, practising throwing the perry buoys and ropes plus any other open water activity that may be required for an up and coming competition.

SOUTH BRITAIN DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Surf Skis PracticeFor a number of years a group of young (and not so young) folk have been meeting every other month to do some training together, the aim being to brush up on techniques ready for future competitions. The group is made up of people from various clubs in the south and is organised by John Stainer who is the South Squad Leader for the R.L.S.S. (aswell as the trainer for the UK Squad).  During the winter months the sessions take place at indoor pools across the southern part of the country and then during the warmer months we venture outdoors. This year, as in previous years, there was a session that took place at Southwater Country Park, near Horsham, and here we had the opportunity to practice on cobra skis, malibu boards and surf skis. We also had practised entries and exits, both with and without fins, torpedo buoy relays and general distance swims. Throughout the summer months there have been several training sessions that took place in the sea at Bournemouth, again testing our skills on board work, practising various swimming events and participating in beach sprints, relays and flags.

All of these sessions should help to make the south region a stronger squad ready to beat those tough northerners!
